LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT



          We seek to enrich the language used and understood by
          your child. Activities include:

          Circle time and sharing experiences.
          Enjoying books and other reading materials eg. magazines,
          catalogues and menus.
          Using books to find information.

          Listening to stories, rhymes, jingles and songs.
          Enjoying mark-making and writing using chalk, graphite,
          markers and chunky pencils.
          Learning how to use writing tools eg. stapler, tape dispenser,
          clips, glue, envelopes.

          Opportunities to process and find key information.
          Talking to others.

          Borrowing books and story sacks from the library.
          Recalling and recounting stories and experiences.

          Using puppets, props and pictures to stimulate language.
          Learning the skills of conversation.

          THE ARTS



          The children have extensive opportunities to develop their
          creativity and problem-solving through art, music and
          movement, drama and role-play:

          Exploring materials such as clay, paint, fabric, wood and ceramics.
          Creating transient art projects eg. mosaics, chestnuts, leaves.

          Using a range of tools - brushes, scrapers, rollers, scissors.
          Finding pleasure in the art process.

          Learning artistic skills - marbling, modelling, printing,
          observational painting etc.

          Exploring colour, pattern, shape and texture.
          Singing and responding to music and playing percussion
          instruments.

          Developing an awareness of speed, pitch and rhythm.
          Enjoying dressing up and make believe.
          Role-playing familiar people - mum, dad, gran, vet, nurse,
          firefighter, superhero, princess - the sky is the limit!

          ICT LINKS



          A combination of the interactive whiteboard and iPads enable
          the children to develop their ICT skills. We also have access to
          Easi-speak microphones and Beebot programmable devices.
